Occulto Night No. 5/15: JD Zazie / Devid Ciampalini & Ezio Piermattei

SPEKTRUM, Bürknerstr 12, 12047 Berlin

Let me quickly indulge on self-reference: this week starts with a Summer Occulto Night that is also the first collaboration with a new Berlin venue I really like – Spektrum. It is also the chance to finally invite our beloved JD Zazie to perform solo – you may remember her great dj set at Occulto Fest 2013 – and to welcome two Italian musicians very active in the underground scene – Devid Ciampalini and Ezio Piermattei – to present their new duo. Hope to see you there.

Broutin – Step by step the non-painter grazes

La Plaque Tournante, Sonnenallee 99 12045 Berlin

Lettrism is a late ‘ism’ influenced by Dada and Surrealism, started in France in the late 40s by Romanian immigrant Isidore Isou. As the name suggests, it has a lot to do with words and symbols – read: visual poetry – yet lettrists explored a lot of different media – including painting, film and sound – looking for a new synthesis between writing and the visual arts. Broutin – currently based in Berlin – is a prominent and prolific example of a movement that never gave up experimentation. La Plaque Tournante curates his flamboyant events with competence and passion; you could spend hours checking their shows – they look like huge archives – you get video screenings, concerts, you are told stories, you are welcome to ask questions, have a drink and good food.

film in sounds. Cinematic Evolvement pres. LA PLANÈTE SAUVAGE (FANTASTIC PLANET) – René Laloux – Music: B/B/S/ – Live at Pompeji / Zukunft

Freiluftkino Pompeji, Laskerstr. 5, 10245 Berlin

Take a small and nice open air independent kino in the depth of Fredrichshain; add a selection of very diverse and very interesting cutting-edge films – this time an early 70s French-Czech scifi animation I have been wishing to watch for a while – and live music by the talented multiinstrumentalist & good friend of Occulto Aidan Baker, together with some of the musicians he’s collaborating with in several projects and ensemble – this time B/B/S/ (w/ Andrea Belfi and Erik K Skodvin). Highly recommended!
