Emitter Micro #4

Ausland, Lychener Str. 60 10437 Berlin, Germany

SPEKTRUM, Bürknerstr 12, 12047 Berlin, Germany

ZUKUNFT am Ostkreuz, Laskerstr. 5, 10245 Berlin, Germany

“Emitter Micro is a reduced label of sound and more.” Their releases are mostly commissioned works that encourage the artists to try new things: a special, curated format that requires a lot of work and passion. Emitter Micro is also an experimental music & arts festival whose fourth edition is starting on Friday May 19th in Ausland (Prenzlauerberg), and landing in Zukunft (Friedrichshain) after passing through Spektrum (Kreuzberg). The festival is crossing not only districits, but also genres, techniques and media. My personal highlights are Ute Wassermann, Richard Garet and Jealousy Party, but there’s much more to listen to, watch and discover in the program.

Fracto – A Weekend of Experimental Film Screenings

ACUD MACHT NEU (Kino and Studio), Veteranenstraße 21, 10119 Berlin, Germany

Fracto 2017 is the first edition of a new annual experimental film festival curated by Giuseppe Boccassini, Jo Braun and Masha Matzke. You may have noticed that I know these guys – we’ve made a collaborative event not so long ago – and exactly because of this I can tell you: they know very well what they do, each of them accumulated knowledge and skills in regards of cinema in oh so many ways; they put all that together and worked hard to select 42 special works for this two-day program. Either you already know and love contemporary experimental film or want to learn something about it: Don’t miss the first Fracto, it’s going to be grand.

William Basinski, Daimon, Skrei

Hangar 49, Holzmarktstraße 15, 10179 Berlin, Germany

Basinski is an avant-garde composer, sound and video artist, clarinetist and saxophonist that may not need a long introduction for most readers of this blog. Also, the first evening is already sold out and doesn’t seem to need Occulto’s promotion that much, but there’s more to it: it is organised with love by Metzger Therapy, a label&booking creature whose style and attitude I appreciate and support, it features a small ensemble that is rare to see in Berlin, the a/v Daimon trio composed by Paolo Monti, Nicola Quiriconi and industrial/post-industrial Italian legend Simon Balestrazzi, plus one live by the Berlin based, Metzger Therapy’s dad Skrei.

Zuriaake, Mai Mai Mai

Urban Spree, Revaler Str. 99, 10245 Berlin-Fried

First-generation Chinese black metal by Zuriaake and “poisonous, punishing electronic miasmas” by the masked hero Mai Mai Mai aka Toni Cutrone – you may have seen him perform in town at the third Occulto Night 2015, or at the Ongapalooza Berlin Edition in 2016, or maybe you’ve read about him in the TAZ? Anyway, great line up, let’s go.
